Renault Adds Upscale Version to Megane Lineup

PARIS – Renault has added a premium-level sedan to its new Megane, albeit one that masquerades under the title of Megane Grand Coupé.

The 4-door C-sector coupé follows the launch of the new Megane last year and the Megane Sport Tourer in the spring and clearly targets the middle-manager executive market. Built at Renault’s plant in Bursa, Turkey, the Grand Coupé will be sold in more than 20 countries globally.

The design features strongly sculpted surfaces, a Renault-family front grille and C-shaped front lighting. A panoramic glass roof links the windshield to the rear window to give it a two-tone look.

Inside practicality sees the car claim sector-leading rear-passenger accommodation with hands-free trunk access and a luggage capacity of 17.9 cu.-ft. (508 L).

Using the same modular Renault-Nissan Alliance platform as the rest of the Megane range, the Grand Coupé also shares cabin technology including a 7-in. (17.8-cm) color TFT instrument panel, an 8.7-in. (22.1-cm) multimedia screen, R-Link 2 connectivity, Multi-Sense adjustable suspension, Easy Park Assist and an extensive lineup of comfort equipment and driving aids such as advanced emergency braking and lane-departure warning.

Depending on the market, the powertrain range will feature two gasoline engines, the 114-hp SCe, available with a 5-speed manual gearbox or CVT, and the 128-hp TCe with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Three dCi diesel options range 89-128 hp and are available with 6-speed manuals or, in the case of the mid-range 108-hp version, an optional 6-speed DCT.
