Original Range Rover Sets Template for High-Zoot SV Coupe

It’s a big, luxurious SUV that sports two doors – that’s the Range Rover SV Coupe that British automaker Land Rover plans to reveal March 6 at the Geneva auto show.

A bird’s-eye-view interior photo released by Land Rover details a bespoke, 4-seat environment replete with diamond-quilted upholstery, wood inlays and minimalist switchgear.

Land Rover says the SV Coupe is “a celebration of the Range Rover bloodline, with a dramatic 2-door silhouette that alludes to its unique heritage – the Range Rover launched as a 2-door in 1970 – while being thoroughly modern and contemporary.”

The vehicle, launching during the 70th anniversary of Land Rover, will be hand-assembled at the company’s SV Technical Center in Warwickshire, U.K., with production limited to 999 copies.

While exterior images of the new SUV won’t be released until the unveiling, Land Rover describes the body design as “seductive” with “breathtaking exterior proportions” and an interior that is “sumptuous, supremely refined (and) beautifully appointed.”

“This is a vehicle that will resonate on an emotional level,” says Gerry McGovern, Land Rover chief design officer.

Jaguar Land Rover, owned by India-based Tata, achieved record sales of 114,333 vehicles in U.S. in 2017, up 9.0% for the year, including a record 74,739 Land Rovers. The brand sold nearly 600,000 vehicles worldwide.

The company’s 2.0L turbocharged, 247-hp 4-cyl. Ingenium engine earned a 2018 Wards 10 Best Engines award.
